Maybe I had too-high expectations, but while it had some elements I really liked, it felt sort of formulaic to me. Jennie: I recently finished Devil’s Daughter (I’ll have a mini review in an upcoming “What I’ve Been Reading” post), and I gave it a B. Jennie caught up on the series last year, and I invited her to review Chasing Cassandra with me. So I was thrilled to get an ARC of Chasing Cassandra, the sixth and final book in the series.
Granted (and surprisingly) I felt like there was some hiccups with DEVIL’s DAUGHTER, but I think Kleypas is back in the groove with CHASING CASSANDRA by delivering a heartwarming, compelling, and delightfully addictive love story that’s impossible to put aside.Janine: As a lot of people probably already know (because I couldn’t stop talking about it), I’m a huge fan of Devil’s Daughter, the previous book in Lisa Kleypas’s Ravenels series. Expect to enjoy the cameos of beloved characters, which makes reading all the more fun to devour.
Their story unfolds with exquisite suspense, charm and banter, as we learn more about Tom and Cassandra and watch their chemistry burn the pages. He is determined to have her, even if he cannot give her the only thing she desires-love. Tom recognizes that he needs to find a wife and approaches the issue with the pragmatism of a business deal, but from the moment he sees Cassandra, nothing is the same after that. Severin is cynical and cunning-traits that have helped him achieve immense wealth and power, while Lady Ravenel longs for true love and a family of her own. It’s a wonderfully addictive story where opposites attract. In the recent, highly anticipated Ravenel’s romp, she combines the ruthless Tom Severin, an intellectual with a frozen heart, with the quick-witted beauty, Lady Cassandra Ravenel. Each story is a pleasure to read, its unique magic gives life to well-drawn characters with a sharp mind and irresistible warmth. There is something special about a Lisa Kleypas romance.
